My Monat Skincare Routine

Welcome to one of my most requested blog posts: my skincare routine. One of my goals for April was to be consistent with my skincare routine! I've been using these products for about 8 weeks now, and feel like I know how they work for my skin now. All products are from Monat, they're vegan, plant based & sustainable.   Cleanser I use this cleanser first thing in the morning and right after removing my makeup in the evening.  This is the Be Balanced Foaming Cleanser. It's for oily-combo skin, which is my skin type during the summer! It helps to purify your skin without stripping it, and I feel like my face is very clean after cleansing  Essence To prep my skin for serum, I use the Skin Revitalizing Essence. I put a few shakes into the palm of my hand, rub my hands together to warm it up and then press it into the skin. This essence helps to minimize your pores and helps your skin absorb the products you put on afterwards.  Serum I use two serums, one in the m...

Skin Type Series: Combination Skin

Combinations Skin: There are different types, and levels of combination skin. There is dry combination skin, oily combination skin, etc. I personally have very dry cheeks and a moderately oily t-zone. When you have combination skin it is hard to find makeup that moisturizes your drier areas as well as controls oil. Here are a few products that I have tried that worked well on my dry combination skin. Please keeping mind that you know your skin best, and so choose whatever works best for you. Primers: Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer This primer is my personal favourite. It creates a barrier over dry patches and it does not add any oil to my t-zone. I wouldn’t say this primer controls oil, but it definitely does not add to it. It does contain silicones, but it has yet to cause me to break out, and I have very sensitive skin. It has a creamy light consistency, and it does not feel as if you are putting a heavy product onto your face. I recommend giving the primer about 5-10 mi...

Skin Type Series: Dry Skin

When you have dry skin, you  have to find products that will hydrate your skin without clinging to your dry patches, or dry your skin out even more. Remember to start with a skin regime that is tailored to your skin. Primer: If your foundation stays well without primer your can skip this step. 1. Laura Mercier Hydrating Foundation Primer This is lightly hydrating primer that creates a barrier between your skin and the makeup, it works well with sensitive skin. 2. Korres Greek Yoghurt Nourishing Primer This is silicone free and won't irritate sensitive skin. The primer has a cooling effect which helps tight and dry skin feel more nourished and hydrated. Foundation: Look for foundations that say: luminous, illuminating, hydrating, etc. These foundations will give your skin a glow, take away from any dullness your skin may have, and will glide over any dry patches. 1. Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse This is a creamy moisturizing formula, that glides over dry patches whe...

Skin Type Series: Oily/Acne Prone Skin

Oh the joys of having oily and/or acne prone skin. Believe me, I had it for quite a while (my skin has gotten progressively drier yet I still get occasional spots). No one wants to feel like they are melting, or have to worry all day about blotting. But the fact is that for some people, even after puberty, there skin is oily. This article is strictly about makeup products that I have personally used, that helped me when my skin was broken out, or going through its oily stage. A couple things to keep in mind, oily skin does still need a moisturizer, I used Nivea Soft Moisturizer. I found using a heavier moisturizer helped with my pimples, but of course only do what works for your skin, you know it best. Primers: I truthfully never used one until recently, I personally found that they irritated my skin, and did not help with controlling oil. However, I found a couple of mattifying moisturizers, that worked miracles. I would (and still do) mix them with my foundation, and I found thi...
