Fab February: Chignon Tutorial

It's official! Paris Fashion Week has begun and just in time. Welcome to the final chapter of my Paris inspired makeup, fashion, and hair trilogy! Today's hair style: the chignon, is inspired by the above photo of Victoria Beckham. I know she is not French nor was this picture taken in Paris, but the chignon is an incredibly popular hair style and this is just my favourite one. Let's add a little spice to the Paris series (get it spice, as in Spice Girls...) Products Needed: -Heat Protectant - Curling Wand/Iron - Hair Ties - Bobby Pins - Hair Spray 1. Start with dry hair. You can wash your hair the night before or work with second day hair. If your hair feels a little greasy just add a little bit of dry shampoo to your roots. 2. Spray your hair with a heat protectant making sure to get all the way to the ends of the hair. 3. Loosely curl your hair using your curling wand or curling iron. Don't worry if you don't get every single piece because you are

What is Bloglovin and how do I use it?

Some of you may have noticed that I recently joined a site called Bloglovin. I would just like to give a little bit of information on this website and what it means for my blog. Bloglovin is a free resource which brings all of your favourite blogs into one space/newsfeed. When you create a Bloglovin account you can see all of the blog’s you follows updates without having to go to all the separate urls. If you have a blog you can “claim” it on Bloglovin and then people will be able to follow it. When you update your blog you can choose to have it automatically update your social medias, for example mine is connected to my Twitter account. When you join Bloglovin you are not giving up the rights to your blog nor is it then sponsored by Bloglovin. This website is simply a positive way to promote your blog and be able to read other people’s blogs that have similarities to your own.  I see this as a great opportunity for anyone who, like me, is just starting out in the blog

Fab February: Paris Inspired Fashion

Today's Fab February is the sequel to my last post. All of these fashion ideas are what I have amalgamated after doing a lot of research into French fashion. Tips on Dressing Parisian Chic: 1. Slim Cut Pants . There is the saying that "jeans are a Frenchwoman's sweat pants", and I have to believe that is true. Slim cut pants are the best choice for everyday as they can be paired with any top. You can get straight cut khakis for the spring and summer, and slim black pants work great for day and night. 2. Flats and Heels . I realize this is kind of counteractive but both style are worn frequently in Paris. Flats make an outfit more casual, and 2-3 inch heels add elegance. When choosing the shoes pick neutral nudes, black, and grey in classic styles. 3. Trench Coat. This is your best friend in the Spring, Fall, and Winter. It doesn't get overly cold in Paris (in respect to Canada at least) but a warm trench coat is a great piece to have in your wardrobe. Bl

Fab February: Paris Inspired Makeup Look

Welcome to today's Fab February! For my next Hair, Makeup, and Outfit series I will be doing all Paris/French themed looks! French women are considered some the most beautiful in the world, and this look is inspired by French beauties such as Marion Cotillard and Clemence Poesy. Let's get started: Face: 1. Start by spritzing your freshly cleansed face with a vitamin infused face mist. Jessie's Picks: Avene Facial Mist. Kora Organics Balancing Face Mist. 2. Next take a deep moisturizer and blend it into your skin. Jessie's Picks: Nivea Moisturizing Day Cream. Embryollisse Lait Creme Concentre. 3. Take a cream bronzer and apply it to wherever the sun naturally hits your face. Blend out well using your fingers or a buffing brush. Jessie's Picks: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Bronce. Benefot Cosmetics Sun Beam.  4. On a big fluffy powder brush dust a luminous loose powder foundation all over your face and down your neck. Jessie's Picks: R

Fab February: Anna Edwin Makeup

Anna Edwin is a Norwegian blogger. She began her blog in 2009 and she blogs about everything from hair to bowling (well maybe not actually bowling). Her hair and makeup is always flawless, nice and bronzed.  So I thought it would be perfect for spring and to warm us all up. If you want to check out Anna's blog click  here  (her blog is obviously in Norwegian so you'll have to press the translate button). I searched her blog and tried to use the same products that she does. Let's get started on her makeup look! Face: 1. Start with your favourite face primer. Jessie's Picks: Too Faced Primed and Poreless Skin Smoothing Primer. Korres Greek Yoghurt Face Primer. 2. Next apply your concealer underneath your eyes and on any blemishes. Jessie's Picks: Mac Moisturecover Concealer. TheBalm Time Balm Concealer. 3. On a big fluffy face brush buff a matte powder foundation all over your face and down your neck. Jessie's Picks: Bare Mineral Matte Foundation Bro

Fab February: Vero Moda Clothing Haul

Hello!  Today's Fab February is a spring clothing haul from Vero Moda. There is only one store (that I know of) outside of Quebec and I have seen so many of their nice clothes on Anna Saccone's blog that I knew I had to go inside when I found it. They were having a sale, so I actually went back and picked up another two items. I truly believe in the rule that you should never buy anything full price.  Here are the items I picked up: I love the pattern and the high-low hem line of this button up. It is light and airy, and perfect for spring. The other is a wool knit sweater that has sequins all through and just the perfect pick me up on a cold rainy morning.  The first time I was there I got two dresses, both reduced from over $35 to $12.50. The first is a black shift dress with beaded detail on the sleeves. The other is a sweetheart neckline with sheer mesh over top. It is incredibly comfortable and breathable.  I hope you enjoyed this post and maybe you'l

Fab February: Bright Spring Lipsticks (Haul)

Today's Fab February is the final part of my spring series as well as a mini haul. My favourite makeup look for spring is light eyes with a bright lip. Keep your face and eye makeup light with just a tinted moisturizer, a champagne eye shadow, and a nice rosy blush. After you've done that pop on a bright lip and enjoy the sunshine. Now on to the haul. Here are some bright sheer lipsticks that I picked up the other day: \ 1. Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Sugar Plum, Pink Truffle, and Strawberry Shortcake . I love these lip butters! I already have Sugar Frosting and Creme Brulee which are perfect for winter, but I wanted some brighter colours for spring. Shoppers was having a sale, so I picked up 3 to get me through the spring. Once I have worn them all for a while I shall write a review. 2. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Lovesick. This is the most gorgeous fuchsia I have ever seen. I also have another balm stain in Honey which is perfect for a

Fab February: Rainy Day/Spring Hair Tutorial

1. Starting the night before wash you hair; now before you go to bed separate your hair as if you are putting it in pigtails.  2. Grab one “pigtail” and start to twist it. Twist your hair all the way until it begins to twist on it elf. Now take you twisted pigtail and pin it on top of your head. You can use butterfly clip or bobby pins. I, personally, find long dance bobby pins the most comfortable to sleep in. You really should not feel the clips that much unless you sleep in a headstand.  3. Do the same to the other pigtail. 4. In the morning, take down your pigtails and unravel them. You now should have nice curly waves.  5. Flip you head upside down and spray with a loose hold hairspray.  If you need to, tease the roots with a fine toothed comb to add volume. The curls will fall a little throughout the day, but the still will look like beautiful and effortless waves. There you have it! A super easy and fast hair style for those rainy spring days ahead.

Fab February: Rainy Day Outfit Ideas

Today's Fab February is looking ahead to the warmer rainy days of spring, which I am sure are only days away. (After, of course, the latest cold front passes then I am positive it will be spring). So looking ahead to those beautiful days when you will still need to dress warm, but not polar vortex warm, here are a few items to have on stand-by in your closet: 1. Cozy Knits. This has not changed from my winter weather post, however now you may not have to wear 4 layers of thermal underwear underneath your sweater. You can just be cozy in the sweater worn all by itself. 2. Thick Leggings . No leggings are not pants, but they can be worn underneath your long cozy sweaters. Just make sure the sweater comes down to at least mid thigh if you are planning on wearing leggings and no pants. 3. Rubber Boots . Get rid of those clunky winter boots and grab your bright yellow rubber boots! Or riding boots. They come in all sorts of colours and patterns nowadays so pick which one is you

Fab February: Victoria's Secret Inspired Makeup

This Monday Morning’s Fab February is the final chapter of my Victoria’s Secret Trilogy. Today we are focusing on makeup inspired by the above picture of Candice Swanepoel. It is dewy bronzed skin, clean eyes, and nude lips. So break out your liquid bronzers from the depths of your makeup bag and let’s get started. Face: Starting with a clean and moisturized face, take a liquid bronzer and mix it with your tinted moisturizer. Pick up a buffing brush and buff it all over your face and neck. Jessie’s Picks: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Topaz. Take a highlighting concealer and apply it under your eyes in a triangle shape, down your nose, on your cupid’s bow, and onto the centre of your forehead. Blend out with your buffing brush. Jessie’s Picks: Maybelline Dream Touch Lumi Highlighting Concealer. Next pat a cream peach blush along your cheek bones and the apples of your cheeks. Make sure to blend away all harsh edges. Jessie’s Pi

Fab February: Victoria's Secret Model Inspired Fashion

Victoria's Secret Models are looked to for fashion inspiration by thousands of women all  over the world. So today's Fab February is a few fashion ideas to take from the ladies at Victoria's Secret that will match your Victoria's Secret Style hair from yesterday. 1. Wear Slim Fitting Pants . Choose either skinny leg or slim cut pants in dark and classic shades. Jeggings are way more flattering than usual jeans and they hug your curves and don't make it look like you have "tree trunk" legs. Not to mention they are ten times more comfortable than regular denim. 2. Pick Solid Neutral Colours . Choosing solid coloured tops will streamline your figure and make you appear longer and leaner. They also create an interchangeable wardrobe, and take the guessing out of which patterns to pick. 3. Wear Heels . Heels lengthen you, they lift your bum, and make you look instantly thinner (the exact reasons why French women wear them everyday). When looking for

Fab February: Victoria's Secret Hair How-To

Today's Fab February is a hair how-to which is inspired by the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. It is soft loose waves which are simple to do, and make you feel glam any day of the week (even if you are not walking in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show that day). Products Needed: - a round brush -blow dryer -velcro rollers (or hot rollers) -paddle brush -thickening mousse - light hold hairspray -shine serum 1. Starting with damp hair scrunch a grapefruit sized handful of mousse from roots to the tips. But make sure you focus on the roots as this is where you want the most volume. Jessie's Picks: Ganier XXL Thickening Mousse. 2. Flip you head upside down  and blow you hair until almost dry. This will give your hair lots of volume. 3. Now flip your head back up and using your round brush blow dry the top of your hair. Use the brush to pull your hair up and out, this will create lift at the roots. 4. Once your hair is pretty much dry, use your paddle br

Fab February: Makeup Wishlist/To-Do List for 2014

For today's Fab February post I thought I would post my makeup wishlist in honour of "Wishful Wednesday".... Yes, I just made that up.... Basically this post is of all the beauty related products that I would like to purchase or try in 2014. Kind of an odd post, but I have read a number of posts like this and I have always found them a useful forum. So if you have tried any of these products or have products that you want to try out in 2014 feel free to comment! 1. Nars Laguna Bronzing Powder . I have heard so much about this bronzer and I think that after my Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer runs out this will be my next bronzer purchase. 2. Clinique Cheek Pop Blush in Plum Pop. I have a feeling this blush is going to become my go to for the spring and summer. It looks like a grogeous plum shade which would be perfect for my light-medium cool toned complexion. 3. Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette. I am already in love with the original Naked Palette, and I just kn

Fab February: Megan Fox Inspired School Makeup

Today's Fab February is a school look inspired by Megan Fox in the above picture. Its is pretty, light and perfect for school because it emphasizes all your best features without going too over the top. I have modified a few products to make it more wearable and affordable for those of us in school; I have also tried to use limited number of brushes. This look should take no more than 5-6 minutes. So let's get started: Face: 1. Starting with a prepped and moisturized face take a BB cream and blend it all over your face using your fingers. The warmth from your fingers will help the BB cream blend into your skin easier. Jessie's Picks: Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream. Rimmel London 9-1 BB Cream Matte. 2. Next take your concealer apply it under the eyes and on any spots or dark marks, then using your ring finger gently pat until blended. Jessie's Picks: Rimmel 2-1 Concealer and Highlighter. Maybelline 24hr SuperStay Concealer. 3. Again using your fingers apply a c

Fab February: Kim Kardashian Bridal Shower Makeup

Welcome to day three of Fab February. Today's makeup look is inspired by Kim Kardashians' bridal shower makeup. Yes, I know that her marriage only lasted 72 days but that was almost 3 years ago and her bridal shower makeup is still gorgeous 3 years later. So why not do a pretty makeup in the midst of cold and blustery February. This makeup look has a nice flawless base, warm eyes, and sweet pink lips. Face: 1. Start with a moisturizing primer and blend it all over your face with your fingers or a brush. Unless it is actually your bridal shower you don't have to use a photo friendly primer, so don't worry about finding one. Jessie's Picks: Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Foundation Primer. Korres Greek Yoghurt Nourishing Primer. 2. Pick a sheer to medium coverage luminous foundation and apply it with a buffing brush. Jessie's Picks: L'Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation. Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation. 3. Next take a pink cream blush and blend it

Fab February: Review of Benefit's They're Real Mascara

For today's Fab February I thought I would do a makeup review, because I don't think I have done one in a while (or at all?). I purchased this mascara in October and since then I have a had  love/hate relationship with it. Let me start off by saying that I LOVED Benefit's BadGal Lash Mascara. Like literally loved it. But I had read really good reviews about this mascara and the lady at Sephora told me she like it way more than the BadGal. So giving in to makeup pressure I bought it, and the first time I tried it I hated it. I tried it a million different ways and I just could not avoid the skinny spidery lash look, which I despise (unless it is intentional like for fashion week). So I put it away and let it sit for a while thinking that maybe the formula just needed to dry out a little bit. And I was right! I started using it again in December and at that point the consistency was perfect. The formula was less wet so it volumized and curled my lashes rather than making the

Fab February: Angelina Jolie Makeup Look

(Picture Courtesy of Pinterest) Welcome to the first day of Fab February! I was at the movie theatre yesterday and I saw the trailer for Angelina Jolie's new film Maleficent , and I thought why not do an Angelina Jolie makeup tutorial. So today's look is based on the picture above, and I will be using the Tarte Beauty and the Box Eye Shadow Quad in In the Buff. These eye shadows are amazing, they are so smooth and silky and have excellent pigmentation. I have been using this quad for over a year, and it is perfect for neutral makeup looks. The colours compliment any eye colour, but blue eyes will especially benefit from the bronzey shades.  Alright enough rambling here is the Angelina Jolie inspired makeup look: Face: 1. Start with your favourite sheer-medium coverage foundation or tinted moisturizer and blend it all over your face and down your neck. Jessie's Picks : L'Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Oil-Free. 2. Apply
