High end makeup can be great! There are always a few products that we are lusting over and that are the latest craze. But what most people aren't lusting over is shelling out $50 plus for one item of makeup. I know that I definitely don't feel right paying that amount unless I have at least 3 items in my basket. Especially when you are in university and/or not working buying high end makeup can seem unreasonable. However here are a few tips and tricks to help you satisfy your expensive makeup craving, but keep your wallet happy as well.
TIP #1: Buy things in travel size.
Not only is it more practical for your budget, travel size products also give you a chance to try out the latest products or cult classics without having to commit to the full size (and full price). They also fit better in your makeup bag, which if you have a similar problem to me, can help with saving space for all of the other million products that you keep in there.
Travel size products sometimes also make more sense financially. Here are a few examples, yes I actually did the math for you.
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer: Travel Size 1oz $24
Full Size 1.7oz $56
Mac Strobe Cream: Travel Size 1oz $12
Full Size 1.7oz $40
TIP #2: Pick up those value sets.
When brands put out value sets of deluxe trial sizes they are basically calling all university students or "budgeters". Too Faced and Benefit always have great value sets, and twice a year Urban Decay puts out great ones! Especially for their eye liners. Most of the time the value sets carry the brands most popular products, so it is a great way to try out cult classics.
TIP #3: Collect deluxe samples.
Reserved for foundation, most brand counters will give you up to a weeks worth of foundation for free. They want you to test out their product! And most places are very generous with their sample sizes. This can be great if you have a big event coming up and you want to try a high end foundation but you don't want to spend a lot of money. It is a also a great way to try all the new foundations that become available without breaking the bank.
