Palette Breakdown: Tarte Clay Play Face Shaping Palette

Tarte Clay Play Face Shaping Palette Does anyone else forget how good palettes are? And then when you finally get back to them it’s like an awakening? That’s my relationship with the Tarte Clay Play Palette! ⁣ ⁣ I rediscovered it this weekend while getting ready for a date. I wanted to do a simple, classic, matte look so broke out this palette again and immediately made it my face palette for this month’s project pan. ⁣ It’s made up of all matte eye shadow shades with three mattes bronzers. I have a particular love of matte, cool toned shades and could honestly use this palette forever and never get bored of it! ⁣ ⁣ Each shade is very pigmented, and blends like a dream. I love to use the bronzer shade desert as my contour and then blend it out with terracotta for a perfectly sculpted contour.  Tarte has come out with a Clay Play Palette Volume II which includes shimmer eyeshadows, a blush and a highlighter. If you like Tarte formulas and prefer some colour, wa...

My Top Three Favourite Makeup Primers

Tatcha "The Silk Canvas" Primer:  Welcome to bougie-ville! We've all heard the hype around this product, makeup artists, influencers, bloggers, YouTubers, and aunties everywhere were talking about back in 2018 – and I'm hear to tell you that it's 100% worth the hype!  This primer helps my makeup last, keep my face from getting oily throughout the day, and is like an added step of skincare. I even wear it when I am not wearing foundation (or any makeup at all) as it helps to protect your skin from pollutants, and gives your skin a velvety finish!  $68 at Sephora.  Link to buy:  here.   (please note this is an affiliate link) Arbonne Makeup Primer I've recently jumped onboard the Arbonne makeup train, and this primer is one of my fave products from their line. It's vegan, gluten free, and of course cruelty free. A tiny amount goes a long way, and I apply it to my t-zone and the areas where I have larger pores. I will ...

Lady in Red

*cue Lady in Red by Chris de Burgh" Anyone else love a good wrap dress? I can't get enough of them! They're just so flattering, no matter your body type.  As someone who's incredibly short (4'11 short) sometimes finding the right dress can be a task. Shopping for a dress goes from fun to torture very quickly! Every dress I try on, either the torso is too long, sleeves too long, the top is too low cut, etc But with wrap dresses, you can adjust how low cut the front is and because the waist is cinched you can get away with it being a little but long.  This red wrap dress is from Just Fab (can you tell they're a fave spot to shop?). I wear a size medium and it fits perfectly! I could definitely fit a small, but I generally size up as I like to avoid the dress being it being too tight in the arms and shoulders.  You can find the link to this exact dress, here .

Beauty Thursday: Lip and Skincare Products Haul

Since coming home from school I seem to have collected a number of new lip products, and one new skincare product. Granted 3 of these were free- and technically the other two were as well because my Mom paid for them... But regardless! They all magically snaked their way into my makeup bag in the first 2 days I was home. I have tried almost all of them, and they are all amazing and I would highly recommend them.  Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella:  The perfect deep, matte red this lip pencil is now a firm favourite. It goes on smoothly and the opaque colour lasts all day, even with eating, etc. Although this is a matte finish I didn't find the formula drying, nor did it emphasize any of the lines on my lips. If you'd like to see what it looks like on, I'm wearing it in my last blog post which you can find here .  Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien:  Please no one ever ask me to pronounce this name, I'd like to think it's some cool exotic language l...

OOTD: 10, 000 Views and Doggy Friends

Thank you so much for 10, 000 views! While it might not seem that big of a milestone I am so grateful and so very blessed to be able to see my little hobby shared with so many wonderful people. Today, as if in celebration, the sun sun came out! And it was even a good hair day-which for third day hair can sometimes be a great feat.  I just stayed at home with my puppy, as I haven't started work yet, so I busied myself with cleaning and baking some muffins- chocolate chip oatmeal muffins to be exact. When my photographer got home from school he graciously took these pictures while the sun was still shining!   My shirt was my Grandma's and I'm not sure where it is from. It has a really neat "fiery" effect, as you move the red will appear and disappear- so darn cool! My jeans are high-waisted and from Sirens, I needed to loosen the button after a couple of those muffins, but hey a girl's gotta indulge sometimes, My shoes are the same ones I'...

OOTD: Vintage Polka Dots

Summer is finally here! Even though today was grey and cold it didn't discourage me from breaking out this new polka dot dress! The skirt is so flowy, and the dress has a such a flattering neckline that I fell in love with it when I saw it at the thrift store. As a student on a budget thrifting has become a nice, new  and gentler on the pocketbook   hobby. I found this dress and loved the a-line cut and vintage feel. I matched my makeup to the dress by going for a simple turquoise cat eye.  The dress is from O'Neill, shoes are from Aldo, and nail polish is Plum Power by Sally Hanson. Hope you are all enjoying the summer and sunshine! x Jess

How to Buy High End Makeup- For Cheaper!

High end makeup can be great! There are always a few products that we are lusting over and that are the latest craze. But what most people aren't lusting over is shelling out $50 plus for one item of makeup. I know that I definitely don't feel right paying that amount unless I have at least 3 items in my basket. Especially when you are in university and/or not working buying high end makeup can seem unreasonable. However here are a few tips and tricks to help you satisfy your expensive makeup craving, but keep your wallet happy as well.  TIP #1: Buy things in travel size.   Not only is it more practical for your budget, travel size products also give you a chance to try out the latest products or cult classics without having to commit to the full size (and full price). They also fit better in your makeup bag, which if you have a similar problem to me, can help with saving space for all of the other million products that you keep in there. Travel size products ...

Spring Bright Lips Trend 2015

From L-R: Yves Rocher Sheer and Shine Lipstick in No1, Revlon Just Kissable Balm Stain in Audacious and Lovesick, Yves Rocher Rouge D'Ragee in No 66, Revlon Lipstick in Siren  Welcome to March! Which also means Happy Spring! Although if your weather is anything like where I live it still feels like the dead of winter. But that doesn't mean that we can't embrace the warm and sunny lipsticks that go along with Spring (and maybe the nice Spring weather will take the hint and make an appearance).  There are so many options out there so it is impossible not to find something for everyone. And none of the choices have to be expensive, all of the lip colours pictured are from the drugstore yet are still fantastic quality and have great pigmentation.  The many different (and cheaper) options can help try out all sorts of different colours, and formulas. An opaque lipstick can be a little scary, so it may be best to start off with a more sheer formula. There are ma...

Drugstore Haul (Rimmel, Maybelline, and Hard Candy)

Hello everyone! Hope you are having a restful and enjoyable Sunday. The nice, warmer weather is still here so I am enjoying it while it lasts. Today I decided to do a mini haul post for you, mostly lipsticks but a new concealer as well. Rimmel is my favourite drugstore lipstick brand and as you can see I bought another three of their lipsticks.    I picked up two of the new Rimmel lipsticks from their Moisture Renew range. I think they released these a few years ago, then discontinued them, but now it seems they have brought them back. I got As You Want Victoria which is a blue based bright fuchsia which seems perfect for grey winter days, and Summer Angel which is a very shimmery peachy nude. Truthfully, I only bought Summer Angel because it was Anna Saccone favourite of the line... Not really sure how I actually feel about it, but maybe it will grow on me and I think it will be lovely in the summer. I don't recommend buying lipstick this way, pick ones that you...

Jennifer Stano David Makeup Look

(Courtesy of jenniferstano.com) Hello lovely readers! I have recently discovered Jennifer Stano David's blog and I am in love with her and her writing style. She is the owner and designer of the amazing Have Faith Swimgerie and married to very successful business man Alki David. Her everyday makeup look is gorgeous, very natural and pretty, so I thought I would recreate it. I'm going to recreate her look from around 2010 as that was one of my favourites.  Face: 1. Start off by washing, toning, and moisturizing your face. This will create a fresh and clean blank canvas to work on.  2. Apply your favourite light-medium coverage concealer underneath your eyes, around your nose, and onto any blemishes. Then using your fingers or a brush pat the concealer until it blends seamlessly into your skin.  3. On a super fluffy face or bronzer brush take a slightly shimmery bronzer and buff it beneath your cheekbones, sides of your forehead, and along your jawline. T...

Beauty on a Budget: Best Drugstore Pink Lipsticks

From Left to Right: L'Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in 165 Tickled Pink, Covergirl Lipstick in 445 Pink Chic, Rimmel Airy Fairy, Maybelline 015 Born With It Hello Everyone! Today's Beauty on a Budget is all about pink lipstick. These four lipsticks are my absolute favourite, and as each is a different shade and finish there is something for everyone.  L'Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in 165 Tickled Pink.  This is a super bright, frosty pink. It has a creamy texture and great lasting power. Beacuse it has such a frosted finish this lipstick isn't to everyone tastes but it suits most skin tones and can be worn with a lot of other colours. Covergirl Lipstick in 445 Pink Chic.  Another frosty pink, this lipstick might not even be available anymore. It is a cool pink, a very baby pink shade with a silvery glitter. This one has a drier formula and semi-matte finish (besides all the glitter). It goes great with cool colours, and works for both summer and winter.  ...
