Style Saturday: Capes and Knits

Happy Saturday! Today it was 5 degrees here so I finally got to break out my cape. I've been seeing them in all of the magazines and cursing Canadian weather for being so cold. But alas my luck has changed and we have had a warm spell! This cape I bought at a vintage store about 5 years ago and haven't really worn it until now, but my style has developed since then and I thought I'd be more daring and try it. My jeans are from H&M, the knit sweater was a Christmas present, it is from American Eagle, and I really like the way that the different textures of the cape and sweater make the outfit more interesting. My boots we just bought today and they are from the Shoe Company.  I haven't been wearing makeup much this week since I am just at home and I really didn't feel like putting on makeup just to take these pictures, so it is just my face in these pictures. On my nails is Rimmel's Chic Chick, and I curled my hair with the BeLissPro Cu...

How to Apply Eyeliner (Pencil AND Gel)

Eyeliner seems to be the bane of every non-makeup addicts existence... Although maybe some makeup addicts as well. So many people have told me that they don't wear eye liner because it terrifies them and they don't know how to do it. So instead of telling each person how to apply eyeliner, I thought that it would be way easier to make a video! So I made my brother hold a camera for 15min so I could film this spectacle.  You can watch that step by step video  here . (Please excuse the shaky camera, my poor brother had no tripod to help him) A few misconceptions about eyeliner: 1. NO you will not poke your eye out. 2. Black is NOT the shade for everyone. If you are anything but dark haired please, please, please wear brown, grey or blue... Anything but black! it is not flattering at all if you are very fair. 3. Liquid liner is NOT the only way to get a dramatic or daytime look. I honestly prefer Gel/Cream and pencil liner... Liquid is just plain scary...

Soft Warm Winter Makeup

Today's makeup look is inspired by all the cosy Winter knits. It is soft, gold, and glowing, kind of like firelight. The eyes are a shimmery soft gold and champagne, paired with peachy gold cheeks, and lips. Face: 1. Start with a moisturizing face primer, and using a flat foundation brush blend it all over your face. Try: Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer or Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Foundation Primer. 2. Using the same brush blend a tinted moisturizer into your skin, making sure to bring it down the next. By using more hydrating base products it will protect your skin from all the harsh drying elements of winter. If you don't have a tinted moisturizer simple mix a little bit of your face moisturizer into your foundation or concealer. Try: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer or Clinique Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer. 3. Dab a luminous concealer underneath your eyes in a v-shape to highlight, around your nose, and above the browbone. Take the foundation brush...

Everyday Natural Makeup Routine Using Urban Decay Naked Palette

Hello everyone! Today's makeup look is a neutral everyday look that only uses the Urban Decay Naked Palette. It is so much easier to recreate looks, or just lighter to travel with if you only have to use one palette. This eye makeup is actually one of my favourites and I wear it a lot during the school year.  Let's get started! Base: 1. Starting off with freshly washed and moisturized skin, smooth a BB Cream or tinted moisturizer all over your face starting from the centre of the face blending outwards. I used Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream in Medium/Deep.  2. Next take a concealer and apply it in a v shape underneath your eyes as well as around your nose. Take a fluffy brush (or you can use your fingers) and blend out the concealer. I used Rimmel Match Perfection 2 in 1 Concealer in Light/Medium.  3. Using a big and fluffy face brush dust your face with a setting powder to mattify the skin. I used Mac Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation in C4.  ...

Fashion Friday: Going Camping (Wardrobe)

Hello everyone! Next weekend my friends and I are going camping so I thought   would do a little two part series on camping. If you are like me, an indoors person, camping can seem very daunting, but I think it is important to keep an open mind. So I must practice what I preach and enjoy this camping trip and the beach. Please keep in mind that I am indeed bringing other non-beauty and fashion related things.  Long Sleeved Shirts. You never know what the weather is going to be like (especially in Canada) so long sleeved shirts are a must. They are perfect for the nights when it gets cold, or if it is raining you can wear them during the day. The two that I am bringing are super soft and work well with layers underneath. I also think there is nothing cuter than a vest with a long sleeved shirt underneath.  T-Shirts, Plaid Shirts, and Track Pants. Basically comfy clothes. Stuff that you can throw over your bathing suit or wear at night around the camp fire. Of ...

Beauty Tuesday: Favourite Nude Lipsticks

Hello everyone! I'm officially back from the land of pre-production mindlessness. Since I've been gone it has turned into May so it time to break out the pretty spring lip colours. I prefer nude lip colours all year round but especially during the spring and summer. So today's post is my favourite nude lipsticks. From L-R: Rimmel Kate Lip Stick 14, Rimmel Lasting Finish Lip Stick in Asia, Revlon  Super Lustrous Lip Stick in Blushing Mauve,Revlon Lip Butters in Creme Brulee and Pink Truffle, Mac Matte Lip Stick in Velvet Teddy. Rimmel Kate Lipstick Shade 14. This is a matte finish very pale nude lipstick. It works perfectly with a heavier smokey eye, and it lasts for ages. I find this colour washes me out a tiny bit if I just wear it on its own. It is definitely meant to be paired with a dramatic eye.  Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Asia. A browny-pink shade this lipstick is great for everyday. It has a semi matte finish and great lasting power. It is the pe...

Spring Ballerina Makeup

Hello Everyone! Happy April J Today’s makeup look is ballerina inspired. Lancome’s Spring 2014 line is called French Ballerine and features Lily Collins. This look is perfect for spring as it is delicate, fresh, pink and just reminds me of flowers. Face: 1. Start off by applying a tinted moisturizer or BB cream to your freshly moisturized skin. You can use your finger or a brush, either way, make sure to blend down your neck. We want the skin to be as fresh and dewy as possible so a tinted moisturizer and no face powder is the best option. Jessie’s Picks: Mac Studio Finish Concealer. YSL Touche Eclat. 3. Blend a baby pink blush onto the apples of your cheeks and up along your cheekbones. You can choose a cream or powder form blush, whatever you feel most comfortable working wit...

Fashion Friday: Menswear Inspired Fashion

Recently, many female celebrities have been rocking menswear inspired outfits. It is a trend I think everyone should try once. It works great for the office, school, or just everyday. Here are some examples of menswear inspired outfits along with some tips and tricks to getting the look just right. Tip to steal: When wearing a three piece suit, try to pick fitted items. A fitted and slightly cropped suit jacket will look more flattering than an oversized one which will only dwarf your figure. Many designers make fitted women's dress pants, and these are the best and most flattering options.   Tip to steal: Try wearing menswear in light or pastel colours. If you have chosen a more structured and less fitted piece, try it in a more feminine hue. Since it's spring (fingers crossed) pastel colours are all the rage. Tip to steal: Pairing a dress shirt with shorts and loafers is a great casual androgynous summer outfit. It creates a very classic and timeless shape. Ch...
