Style Saturday: Capes and Knits

Happy Saturday! Today it was 5 degrees here so I finally got to break out my cape. I've been seeing them in all of the magazines and cursing Canadian weather for being so cold. But alas my luck has changed and we have had a warm spell! This cape I bought at a vintage store about 5 years ago and haven't really worn it until now, but my style has developed since then and I thought I'd be more daring and try it. My jeans are from H&M, the knit sweater was a Christmas present, it is from American Eagle, and I really like the way that the different textures of the cape and sweater make the outfit more interesting. My boots we just bought today and they are from the Shoe Company.  I haven't been wearing makeup much this week since I am just at home and I really didn't feel like putting on makeup just to take these pictures, so it is just my face in these pictures. On my nails is Rimmel's Chic Chick, and I curled my hair with the BeLissPro Cu...

Beauty on a Budget: Best Drugstore Pink Lipsticks

From Left to Right: L'Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in 165 Tickled Pink, Covergirl Lipstick in 445 Pink Chic, Rimmel Airy Fairy, Maybelline 015 Born With It Hello Everyone! Today's Beauty on a Budget is all about pink lipstick. These four lipsticks are my absolute favourite, and as each is a different shade and finish there is something for everyone.  L'Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in 165 Tickled Pink.  This is a super bright, frosty pink. It has a creamy texture and great lasting power. Beacuse it has such a frosted finish this lipstick isn't to everyone tastes but it suits most skin tones and can be worn with a lot of other colours. Covergirl Lipstick in 445 Pink Chic.  Another frosty pink, this lipstick might not even be available anymore. It is a cool pink, a very baby pink shade with a silvery glitter. This one has a drier formula and semi-matte finish (besides all the glitter). It goes great with cool colours, and works for both summer and winter.  ...

Summer Foundations

Hi everyone! Summer is finally here! This post is just a quick look at some great summer foundations. I went away camping for a weekend and got nice and tan so I can finally switch to my darker shades.  Garnier Skin Perfector BB Cream in Light/Medium . If you are looking for a sheer coverage tinted moisturizer, this is the product for you. It has a heavier texture which can be uncomfortable on a humid day, but on a cloudy day this is a great base. It can be worn alone or under foundation. It actually has a really nice semi-matte finish when set with a setting powder, or a dewy finish if worn by itself.  Vichy Norma Teint Anti-Blemish Foundation in Sand . This foundation is perfect for acne prone skin. It is almost like a serum, very liquid like, but it has great coverage and lasting power. I don't suffer from acne or a lot of pimples, but of I do have a bit of a break out this foundation doesn't irritate it further and keeps it from spreading.  ...

Week of Favourites: Favourite Bright Lip Colours

Welcome the Week of Favourites! Kicking off my favourites lists are my favourite bright lip colours for spring. This is one of my favourite trends and makes for a super fast and easy morning beauty routine.  Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains in Audacious and Lovesick. These balm stains are perfection! They are highly pigmented and very moisturising. The colour lasts all day and if you feel like you need a touch up the crayon style allows you to apply with ease and evenly with or without a mirror.  Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Siren. If can't already tell I am currently on an orange lip kick. This formula has a creamy texture and a creme finish. It layers well and has great lasting power. This lip colour is a must have for summer! Pupa Very Vintage Sheer Lipstick in Coral Dream. Like a baby version of Audacious and Siren this lipstick is exactly what is claims to be: sheer and vintage looking. This particular colour is a pinky coral and goes ...

Super Sunday: Spring Fashion Haul

Hello Everyone! Sorry for my lack of posts, if you follow me on Twitter you will know I am the middle of production for a play right now, therefore I have no time for anything. That aside, today's post is just a quick spring haul. Last week my Mum and I popped into Stitches  for a browse and came out with all of this. First off, I got 15 pairs of socks for $5 (yes, you read that right). I got 2 packs of black and white patterns and one pack which is all vibrant neon coloured (not pictured). I got a very spring-esque peach, pink, and brown patterned scarf. This is so comfortable, soft, and warm; it goes perfectly with my jacket which is khaki green. I also grabbed some of their Aloe Makeup Remover Wipes. I picked up three cardigans, two which are two-toned (one black/grey the other beige/cream) as well as a peach coloured one. They are like big comfy wraps that are perfect for the chill in the morning, yet light enough as the weather warms throughout the day. I got th...

Beauty on a Budget: Drugstore Makeup Must Haves

Hello lovelies! Welcome to Makeup Monday! Today's post is my much requested: Drugstore Makeup Must Haves. All of the products are tried and true and have been repurchased at least once. As you shall soon see my biggest drugstore loves are lip sticks. However I did narrow it down to just 6 "items". It's actually more but whatever! Who's counting? 1. Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream. This is what I have been wearing as foundation since January. I used it during the summer and than purchased it in a lighter shade and fell in love with it all over again. It can be applied with your fingers or a brush and gives a gorgeous sheer coverage with a glowy finish. This is not for you if you want a lot of coverage from your foundation but if you use a heavy concealer this product is great for layering over top. It never cakes, has an SPF 30 and is oil-free. I own it in two shades: Light/Medium and Medium tint.  2 . Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush. These blushers...

Megan Fox Makeup Look

Today's makeup look is inspired by the lovely Megan Fox. It is a sweet daytime look that focuses on long lashes, defined brows, and stained lips. This is perfect for enhancing all of your features but does not make them compete for focus. So let's get started! Face: 1. Start by taking a tinted moisturizer or BB cream and, using a foundation brush, blend it all over your face and down your neck. Using a foundation brush will help you get the most coverage out of the product. Jessie's Picks: Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream. Mac Studio Moisture Tint. 2. Using a matte bronzer and a fluffy face brush, dust the bronzer wherever the sun naturally hits your face. Make sure to also apply some down your neck to prevent tide marks. Jessie's Picks: Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer. Nars Laguna Bronzing Powder. 3. Blend a shimmery peach blush along your cheekbones, sweeping upwards. Jessie's Picks: Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Peach Satin. Yves Rocher ...

Fab February: Paris Inspired Fashion

Today's Fab February is the sequel to my last post. All of these fashion ideas are what I have amalgamated after doing a lot of research into French fashion. Tips on Dressing Parisian Chic: 1. Slim Cut Pants . There is the saying that "jeans are a Frenchwoman's sweat pants", and I have to believe that is true. Slim cut pants are the best choice for everyday as they can be paired with any top. You can get straight cut khakis for the spring and summer, and slim black pants work great for day and night. 2. Flats and Heels . I realize this is kind of counteractive but both style are worn frequently in Paris. Flats make an outfit more casual, and 2-3 inch heels add elegance. When choosing the shoes pick neutral nudes, black, and grey in classic styles. 3. Trench Coat. This is your best friend in the Spring, Fall, and Winter. It doesn't get overly cold in Paris (in respect to Canada at least) but a warm trench coat is a great piece to have in your wardrobe. Bl...

Fab February: Vero Moda Clothing Haul

Hello!  Today's Fab February is a spring clothing haul from Vero Moda. There is only one store (that I know of) outside of Quebec and I have seen so many of their nice clothes on Anna Saccone's blog that I knew I had to go inside when I found it. They were having a sale, so I actually went back and picked up another two items. I truly believe in the rule that you should never buy anything full price.  Here are the items I picked up: I love the pattern and the high-low hem line of this button up. It is light and airy, and perfect for spring. The other is a wool knit sweater that has sequins all through and just the perfect pick me up on a cold rainy morning.  The first time I was there I got two dresses, both reduced from over $35 to $12.50. The first is a black shift dress with beaded detail on the sleeves. The other is a sweetheart neckline with sheer mesh over top. It is incredibly comfortable and breathable.  I hope you enjoyed this post and mayb...

Fab February: Rainy Day Outfit Ideas

Today's Fab February is looking ahead to the warmer rainy days of spring, which I am sure are only days away. (After, of course, the latest cold front passes then I am positive it will be spring). So looking ahead to those beautiful days when you will still need to dress warm, but not polar vortex warm, here are a few items to have on stand-by in your closet: 1. Cozy Knits. This has not changed from my winter weather post, however now you may not have to wear 4 layers of thermal underwear underneath your sweater. You can just be cozy in the sweater worn all by itself. 2. Thick Leggings . No leggings are not pants, but they can be worn underneath your long cozy sweaters. Just make sure the sweater comes down to at least mid thigh if you are planning on wearing leggings and no pants. 3. Rubber Boots . Get rid of those clunky winter boots and grab your bright yellow rubber boots! Or riding boots. They come in all sorts of colours and patterns nowadays so pick which one is you...

Fab February: Megan Fox Inspired School Makeup

Today's Fab February is a school look inspired by Megan Fox in the above picture. Its is pretty, light and perfect for school because it emphasizes all your best features without going too over the top. I have modified a few products to make it more wearable and affordable for those of us in school; I have also tried to use limited number of brushes. This look should take no more than 5-6 minutes. So let's get started: Face: 1. Starting with a prepped and moisturized face take a BB cream and blend it all over your face using your fingers. The warmth from your fingers will help the BB cream blend into your skin easier. Jessie's Picks: Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream. Rimmel London 9-1 BB Cream Matte. 2. Next take your concealer apply it under the eyes and on any spots or dark marks, then using your ring finger gently pat until blended. Jessie's Picks: Rimmel 2-1 Concealer and Highlighter. Maybelline 24hr SuperStay Concealer. 3. Again using your fingers apply a c...

Winter Style Basics

I realize that, especially in Canada, winter has been in full swing for the past 4 months, but let's be in the mindset that it is almost spring! And for the month of February we can resort to a few basic clothing choices to keep us warm and sane. These clothing items are the ones that get me through the last bit of winter by keeping me warm, dry, and stylish at the same time. No need to plan out your outfit you can pick any of these items and throw them on together. Here are my top late winter style basics that will do all the styling for you: 1. Slim Black and/or Grey Pants . Pack your jeans away for the month of February and grab your favourite pair of comfortable black or grey pants. They can be any material or size, my favourite pair are made of a wool like material and slightly loose. Black and grey pants can be paired with any outfit, and are versatile winter colours. 2. Knit Sweaters. These are available everywhere and now are all on sale. They come in different knits, co...

Casual Sunday: Jessica Alba Inspired Hair and Makeup

(Pictures courtesy of Pinterest)  Jessica Alba is the Queen of casual style. So today's hair and makeup duo is all inspired by her. And as you probably guessed from the pictures, it is going to be a simple ponytail and fresh faced makeup look (my favourite!). This look can work any day of the week but  Mondays and Fridays instantly come to mind. So here we go and hope you enjoy: Let's start with the hair: This look works best on day old hair, but you have just gotten out of the shower, scrunch a thickening mousse through your hair and then blow dry smooth with a paddle brush. Regardless of where you started take a large paddle brush and brush your hair back into a high ponytail. Now you can either pull your hair back super sleek or looser and more casual, both work for this look and as it is casual Sunday do which ever makes you feel more comfortable. Slightly tease your ponytail to create volume. And voila! That is the hair done. Now onto the makeup...

Daytime Winged Eye Liner Makeup

Today, I was inspired by this picture of Mila Kunis (found on Pinterest) and I thought that it would be a perfect makeup tutorial! This eye makeup will look great on most eye shapes, and it is a clean and sharp makeup perfect for daytime. Face: 1. Start with a cream to powder foundation, and using either a damp cosmetic sponge or a buffing brush, and blend it well into your skin. Jessie's Picks: Mac Studio Tech Foundation. Benefit Cosmetics Some-Kind-of-Gorgeous . 2. Next add a pink pink cream blush to your cheekbones, and blend upwards to lift your face. Jessie's Picks: Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in Pink Frosting. Stila Convertable Colour in Petunia. 3. Using a brow powder and an angled brush fill in your eye brows. Eyes: 1. Blend a matte grey eye shadow all over your eyelide using a fluffy eye shadow brush. Jessie's Picks: Urban Decay Eye Shadow in Mushroom. Nars Single Eye Shadow in Euphrate. 2. Next blend a matte golden brown eye shadow through your cr...

Best Fashion Looks of the Week

It’s Fashion Friday! Time for my weekly round up of the best fashion looks from the past week. Because I did a separate Golden Globes look I am not going to include any outfits from there. However, coming up next week will be The Best Dressed at the SAG’s: So here we go top 3 outfits of the week: Jessica Alba. No surprise here, and I love how she rocks the white pumps. 2.Sophia Smith. Regardless of what any “directioners” have to say about her, the lady can dress herself, and this outfit is just another prime example. Reese Witherspoon. Leave it to Reese Witherspoon to rock a peplum AND leopard print heels in the same outfit. I hope you enjoyed my picks, and are looking forward to the SAG’s as much as I am! Xx JD
