Anna Saccone Inspired Makeup

(Courtesy of annasaccone.com) Anna Saccone is the most subscribed to female Irish youtuber, the author of "The Style Diet", and 1/4 of the SacconeJoly's YouTube reality show. She also had incredible style and makeup, and so today's post is my take on my favourite of her daily makeup looks, which is very natural but polished. I loved her makeup back in July of 2013 and so that is mostly the look I am going to try and recreate.  Face: 1. Take a full coverage concealer, and dot it under your eyes, on any blemishes, or acne scars. Anna has oily, acne prone skin, and so using a heavier concealer means she can get away with wearing a lighter foundation.  Anna likes Maybelline 24hr SuperStay Concealer or Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer. I used Rimmel 2 in 1 Highlighter and Concealer .  2. Blend a light BB cream or tinted moisturizer all over your face and neck. Anna likes Mac Studio Tint or Maybellline Dream Fresh BB Cream. I used Maybelline Dream ...

Fab February: Paris Inspired Fashion

Today's Fab February is the sequel to my last post. All of these fashion ideas are what I have amalgamated after doing a lot of research into French fashion. Tips on Dressing Parisian Chic: 1. Slim Cut Pants . There is the saying that "jeans are a Frenchwoman's sweat pants", and I have to believe that is true. Slim cut pants are the best choice for everyday as they can be paired with any top. You can get straight cut khakis for the spring and summer, and slim black pants work great for day and night. 2. Flats and Heels . I realize this is kind of counteractive but both style are worn frequently in Paris. Flats make an outfit more casual, and 2-3 inch heels add elegance. When choosing the shoes pick neutral nudes, black, and grey in classic styles. 3. Trench Coat. This is your best friend in the Spring, Fall, and Winter. It doesn't get overly cold in Paris (in respect to Canada at least) but a warm trench coat is a great piece to have in your wardrobe. Bl...

Fab February: Victoria's Secret Hair How-To

Today's Fab February is a hair how-to which is inspired by the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. It is soft loose waves which are simple to do, and make you feel glam any day of the week (even if you are not walking in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show that day). Products Needed: - a round brush -blow dryer -velcro rollers (or hot rollers) -paddle brush -thickening mousse - light hold hairspray -shine serum 1. Starting with damp hair scrunch a grapefruit sized handful of mousse from roots to the tips. But make sure you focus on the roots as this is where you want the most volume. Jessie's Picks: Ganier XXL Thickening Mousse. 2. Flip you head upside down  and blow you hair until almost dry. This will give your hair lots of volume. 3. Now flip your head back up and using your round brush blow dry the top of your hair. Use the brush to pull your hair up and out, this will create lift at the roots. 4. Once your hair is pretty much dry, use your paddle br...

Fab February: Makeup Wishlist/To-Do List for 2014

For today's Fab February post I thought I would post my makeup wishlist in honour of "Wishful Wednesday".... Yes, I just made that up.... Basically this post is of all the beauty related products that I would like to purchase or try in 2014. Kind of an odd post, but I have read a number of posts like this and I have always found them a useful forum. So if you have tried any of these products or have products that you want to try out in 2014 feel free to comment! 1. Nars Laguna Bronzing Powder . I have heard so much about this bronzer and I think that after my Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer runs out this will be my next bronzer purchase. 2. Clinique Cheek Pop Blush in Plum Pop. I have a feeling this blush is going to become my go to for the spring and summer. It looks like a grogeous plum shade which would be perfect for my light-medium cool toned complexion. 3. Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette. I am already in love with the original Naked Palette, and I just kn...

Fab February: Megan Fox Inspired School Makeup

Today's Fab February is a school look inspired by Megan Fox in the above picture. Its is pretty, light and perfect for school because it emphasizes all your best features without going too over the top. I have modified a few products to make it more wearable and affordable for those of us in school; I have also tried to use limited number of brushes. This look should take no more than 5-6 minutes. So let's get started: Face: 1. Starting with a prepped and moisturized face take a BB cream and blend it all over your face using your fingers. The warmth from your fingers will help the BB cream blend into your skin easier. Jessie's Picks: Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream. Rimmel London 9-1 BB Cream Matte. 2. Next take your concealer apply it under the eyes and on any spots or dark marks, then using your ring finger gently pat until blended. Jessie's Picks: Rimmel 2-1 Concealer and Highlighter. Maybelline 24hr SuperStay Concealer. 3. Again using your fingers apply a c...

Fab February: Kim Kardashian Bridal Shower Makeup

Welcome to day three of Fab February. Today's makeup look is inspired by Kim Kardashians' bridal shower makeup. Yes, I know that her marriage only lasted 72 days but that was almost 3 years ago and her bridal shower makeup is still gorgeous 3 years later. So why not do a pretty makeup in the midst of cold and blustery February. This makeup look has a nice flawless base, warm eyes, and sweet pink lips. Face: 1. Start with a moisturizing primer and blend it all over your face with your fingers or a brush. Unless it is actually your bridal shower you don't have to use a photo friendly primer, so don't worry about finding one. Jessie's Picks: Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Foundation Primer. Korres Greek Yoghurt Nourishing Primer. 2. Pick a sheer to medium coverage luminous foundation and apply it with a buffing brush. Jessie's Picks: L'Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation. Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation. 3. Next take a pink cream blush and blend it ...

Fab February: Review of Benefit's They're Real Mascara

For today's Fab February I thought I would do a makeup review, because I don't think I have done one in a while (or at all?). I purchased this mascara in October and since then I have a had  love/hate relationship with it. Let me start off by saying that I LOVED Benefit's BadGal Lash Mascara. Like literally loved it. But I had read really good reviews about this mascara and the lady at Sephora told me she like it way more than the BadGal. So giving in to makeup pressure I bought it, and the first time I tried it I hated it. I tried it a million different ways and I just could not avoid the skinny spidery lash look, which I despise (unless it is intentional like for fashion week). So I put it away and let it sit for a while thinking that maybe the formula just needed to dry out a little bit. And I was right! I started using it again in December and at that point the consistency was perfect. The formula was less wet so it volumized and curled my lashes rather than making the...

Fab February: Angelina Jolie Makeup Look

(Picture Courtesy of Pinterest) Welcome to the first day of Fab February! I was at the movie theatre yesterday and I saw the trailer for Angelina Jolie's new film Maleficent , and I thought why not do an Angelina Jolie makeup tutorial. So today's look is based on the picture above, and I will be using the Tarte Beauty and the Box Eye Shadow Quad in In the Buff. These eye shadows are amazing, they are so smooth and silky and have excellent pigmentation. I have been using this quad for over a year, and it is perfect for neutral makeup looks. The colours compliment any eye colour, but blue eyes will especially benefit from the bronzey shades.  Alright enough rambling here is the Angelina Jolie inspired makeup look: Face: 1. Start with your favourite sheer-medium coverage foundation or tinted moisturizer and blend it all over your face and down your neck. Jessie's Picks : L'Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Oil-Free. 2. Apply...

Current Favourite Lipsticks.... and Big Announcement!

For about the past month I have been wearing the same eye and face makeup everyday, and I have really liked having the same everyday routine. For me there has been something very calming and reassuring about doing the same thing every morning. However I am still a lover of change and so I have been using different lip sticks depending on my mood (which I think a lot of people do?) and there are about 5 that I turn to on various days. 1. Revlon Lip Butter in Creme Brulee and Sugar Frosting. I love these lip butters for the days when I don't feel like making the commitment to lip stick and I just want something that gives my lips a bit of colour and finishes off my makeup. Creme Brulee is a nude brown shade that almost blanks out your lips, but in a good nude lip kind of way (great description I know). Sugar Frosting is a cool toned sheer frosty pink and is basically like a "your lips but better" colour. Both are very hydrating and creamy and can be applied without a ...

Winter Style Basics

I realize that, especially in Canada, winter has been in full swing for the past 4 months, but let's be in the mindset that it is almost spring! And for the month of February we can resort to a few basic clothing choices to keep us warm and sane. These clothing items are the ones that get me through the last bit of winter by keeping me warm, dry, and stylish at the same time. No need to plan out your outfit you can pick any of these items and throw them on together. Here are my top late winter style basics that will do all the styling for you: 1. Slim Black and/or Grey Pants . Pack your jeans away for the month of February and grab your favourite pair of comfortable black or grey pants. They can be any material or size, my favourite pair are made of a wool like material and slightly loose. Black and grey pants can be paired with any outfit, and are versatile winter colours. 2. Knit Sweaters. These are available everywhere and now are all on sale. They come in different knits, co...

Makeup Monday: Lily Aldridge Makeup

Lily Aldridge is a gorgeous model, and after having a not so great day I thought I'd do a model makeup look. This a fresh and bronzed makeup look, so if you can fake tan the night before or just tailor it to your skintone. Face: 1. Apply a gel or liquid bronzer all over your face as a base. Jessie's Picks: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector SPF 25++ in Topaz. Laura Mercier Foundation Primer in Radiance Bronze. 2. Using a brush add some tinted moisturizer all over your face and down your neck. Jessie's Picks:  Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream SPF 30 in Medium. Clinique Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 in Shade 04. 3. Contour your face using matte bronzing powder. Apply it under your cheekbones, on the sides of your forehead, and under your jaw. Jessie's Picks: Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer. The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder. 4. Apply a bronzey-rose cream blush to your cheekbones and blend upwards. Jessie's Picks: Elizabeth Arden Cream Ce...

Casual Sunday: Jessica Alba Inspired Hair and Makeup

(Pictures courtesy of Pinterest)  Jessica Alba is the Queen of casual style. So today's hair and makeup duo is all inspired by her. And as you probably guessed from the pictures, it is going to be a simple ponytail and fresh faced makeup look (my favourite!). This look can work any day of the week but  Mondays and Fridays instantly come to mind. So here we go and hope you enjoy: Let's start with the hair: This look works best on day old hair, but you have just gotten out of the shower, scrunch a thickening mousse through your hair and then blow dry smooth with a paddle brush. Regardless of where you started take a large paddle brush and brush your hair back into a high ponytail. Now you can either pull your hair back super sleek or looser and more casual, both work for this look and as it is casual Sunday do which ever makes you feel more comfortable. Slightly tease your ponytail to create volume. And voila! That is the hair done. Now onto the makeup...

As per usual Jessica Alba has made my list :) This outfit is my favourite because hse is all bundle up but still looking chic, which here in Canada is almost a daily feat. (Picture courtesy of celebmafia.com) 2. Reese Witherspoon. Of course she has also made the list! This is the second outfit of hers in the past few weeks in which she has been wearing bright pink/magenta. Maybe it's her new favourite colour? (Photo courtesy of www.reveal.co.uk) 3. Taylor Swift. I love black on black outfits and paired with her red lips this outfit is divine!  That's this week's round of favourite fashion looks. I hope you enjoyed them and were inspired by some of them! xx JD ...

American Hustle Inspired Smokey Eye

(Courtesy of temptalia.com) Today's post is bit of a mash up, I thought why not do a smokey eye with the Naked Palette, but then add a little inspiration from American Hustle ... And thus this makeup look was born: A smokey eye using the shade "Hustle" from the Urban Decay Naked Palette! Face: 1. Start with a light BB Cream and blend it well into your skin. You can use your fingers or a brush depending on what type of coverage you would like. Jessie's Picks: Maybelline Dream BB Cream. Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream. 2. Apply a peachy-pink blush along your cheekbones and blend upwards. Jessie's Picks: Nars Blush in Orgasm. Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in Peach Satin. 3. Dust your face with a translucent powder to set your BB cream. we are not going to go too heavy on the face, because we want the eye to be the focus, and you don't want to look overly made-up. Jessie's Picks: Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder. Clinique Stay Matte Sheer Pressed Po...

Best Dressed at The Screen Actor's Guild Awards

Yay! It's another best dressed post. This past weekend was the Screen Actor's Guild Awards, and everyone looked stunning. Here are my favourite clothing picks from the red carpet: 1. Amy Adams. She looks amazing in this stunning shade of blue, and she is also definitely going on my fitness inspiration list. 2.Isla Fisher. I must say if she was channeling her inner Marilyn then she should do it more often. She looked stunning in her cream satin v-neck gown. It showed off her curves perfectly,as well as perfectly accented her hair. 3. Jared Leto. Not only can rock the long hair, but he can rock the red carpet looking sharp and sophisticated. 4. Lupita Nyong'o. Turquoise is definitely her colour. With matching eye makeup she gave a lesson on how to go matchy-matchy the right way. 5. Mayim Bialik. This by far the best lace overlay dress I have ever seen, with the lavendar and then black underlay, this is just perfection. And so is Mayim Bialik. Those are my top ...

Favourite YouTube Makeup Tutorials

One of my favourite pass times is, of course, watching makeup tutorials on YouTube. I then usually copy the look for about a week- two weeks after... every. single. day. So I thought I would share with you a couple  of the looks that I rotate through as my makeup routine! Hope you enjoy it: 1. Anna Saccone: My Full Makeup Routine. This is my current favourite makeup look, and I have been wearing it everyday since Christmas, when I got the Urban Decay Naked Palette (Number One). It is perfect if you have brown eyes and oily or combination skin, as that is what Anna has. I'm sure this does not come as a surprise, because those who read my blog regularly will know that Anna Saccone is one of my biggest inspirations! Link to this tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjhW7J_Y18U 2. Pixiwoo: Vanessa Paradis Makeup. I love this makeup look for days when you have your hair thrown up into a bun or a sleek ponytail. It is clean and fresh and just perfection! Link to this tutoria...

Daytime Winged Eye Liner Makeup

Today, I was inspired by this picture of Mila Kunis (found on Pinterest) and I thought that it would be a perfect makeup tutorial! This eye makeup will look great on most eye shapes, and it is a clean and sharp makeup perfect for daytime. Face: 1. Start with a cream to powder foundation, and using either a damp cosmetic sponge or a buffing brush, and blend it well into your skin. Jessie's Picks: Mac Studio Tech Foundation. Benefit Cosmetics Some-Kind-of-Gorgeous . 2. Next add a pink pink cream blush to your cheekbones, and blend upwards to lift your face. Jessie's Picks: Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in Pink Frosting. Stila Convertable Colour in Petunia. 3. Using a brow powder and an angled brush fill in your eye brows. Eyes: 1. Blend a matte grey eye shadow all over your eyelide using a fluffy eye shadow brush. Jessie's Picks: Urban Decay Eye Shadow in Mushroom. Nars Single Eye Shadow in Euphrate. 2. Next blend a matte golden brown eye shadow through your cr...

Best Fashion Looks of the Week

It’s Fashion Friday! Time for my weekly round up of the best fashion looks from the past week. Because I did a separate Golden Globes look I am not going to include any outfits from there. However, coming up next week will be The Best Dressed at the SAG’s: So here we go top 3 outfits of the week: Jessica Alba. No surprise here, and I love how she rocks the white pumps. 2.Sophia Smith. Regardless of what any “directioners” have to say about her, the lady can dress herself, and this outfit is just another prime example. Reese Witherspoon. Leave it to Reese Witherspoon to rock a peplum AND leopard print heels in the same outfit. I hope you enjoyed my picks, and are looking forward to the SAG’s as much as I am! Xx JD

Golden Globes Best Dressed Picks

Award Season is finally here! And starting off with the Golden Globes, here are my favourite outfits: 1. Reese Witherspoon. She is so cute! And one of my biggest fashion inspirations. 2. Kerry Washington. I cannot get over how gorgeous this lady is! 3. Amy Adams. I saw this colour combination a number of times on the Red Carpet... Not quite sure if I like it but she looks beautiful in it! 4. Not only is she amazing in Blue Jasmine , but she is amazing on the Red Carpet. 5. Melissa McCarthy. One of my favourite comedic actresses and a knockout on the Red Carpet. I hope you enjoyed these picks! I thought long and hard about them. I have had questions about best and worst dressed lists, but I would like to state that I only condone positive comments and for me worst dressed lists are not positive. They chose what they wore and, hopefully, they liked their pick, and that is all there is to it. This is all my own opinion and feel free to disagree. On t...

What's in My Travel Makeup Bag?

I have had a number of requests for this post, and I thought now would be a good time to do it since a lot of people are going away on the weekends or on holiday. Most of these products are just in my everyday makeup bag, but a lot of them I have in a travel size, to make them more convenient to carry. By no means are there fewer products, I tend to bring things "just in case" which leads to a lot of unnecessary items being brought along.  So this is what I pack when I am just going to visit family, or whatever, but they can be tapered to wherever you are going whether it is hot or cold there. It is currently rainy and cold in Canada, so let's pretend we're going away on a nice ski weekend, to sip hot chocolate and watch all the skiers go down the hill. Pictures to come! 1. Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer in the Travel Size . This is my go-to primer. It helps with redness, it moisturizes, and it creates a gorgeous base for makeup. The fact that it comes in a conveni...
