How to Apply Eyeliner (Pencil AND Gel)

Eyeliner seems to be the bane of every non-makeup addicts existence... Although maybe some makeup addicts as well. So many people have told me that they don't wear eye liner because it terrifies them and they don't know how to do it. So instead of telling each person how to apply eyeliner, I thought that it would be way easier to make a video! So I made my brother hold a camera for 15min so I could film this spectacle.  You can watch that step by step video  here . (Please excuse the shaky camera, my poor brother had no tripod to help him) A few misconceptions about eyeliner: 1. NO you will not poke your eye out. 2. Black is NOT the shade for everyone. If you are anything but dark haired please, please, please wear brown, grey or blue... Anything but black! it is not flattering at all if you are very fair. 3. Liquid liner is NOT the only way to get a dramatic or daytime look. I honestly prefer Gel/Cream and pencil liner... Liquid is just plain scary...

Jennifer Stano David Makeup Look

(Courtesy of jenniferstano.com) Hello lovely readers! I have recently discovered Jennifer Stano David's blog and I am in love with her and her writing style. She is the owner and designer of the amazing Have Faith Swimgerie and married to very successful business man Alki David. Her everyday makeup look is gorgeous, very natural and pretty, so I thought I would recreate it. I'm going to recreate her look from around 2010 as that was one of my favourites.  Face: 1. Start off by washing, toning, and moisturizing your face. This will create a fresh and clean blank canvas to work on.  2. Apply your favourite light-medium coverage concealer underneath your eyes, around your nose, and onto any blemishes. Then using your fingers or a brush pat the concealer until it blends seamlessly into your skin.  3. On a super fluffy face or bronzer brush take a slightly shimmery bronzer and buff it beneath your cheekbones, sides of your forehead, and along your jawline. T...

Prom Makeup Using Urban Decay Naked Palette

Today's makeup look is a Prom eye makeup tutorial using the Naked Palette. I know a lot of proms have already happened, but there are still a bunch of proms coming up, including mine; so even if your prom has passed this is a great look for a special event or an evening out.  Step One: Start by priming your eyes with an eye shadow primer. Jessie's Picks : Urban Decay Primer Potion. Mac Prep and Prime.  Step Two: Using a flat eye shadow brush, take the colour Virgin  and apply it to your brow bone and the inner corners of your eye.  Step Three: Flip that brush over, and using the other side apply Toasted  all over your eye lid. On an eye liner brush run Toasted  along your lower lashline.  Step Four : Take a crease brush and apply Hustle  into your crease and drag it onto the outer corner of you lid. If you have hooded eyes you can bring the colour slightly up onto your browbone.  Taking an eye liner brush add a litt...

Spring Ballerina Makeup

Hello Everyone! Happy April J Today’s makeup look is ballerina inspired. Lancome’s Spring 2014 line is called French Ballerine and features Lily Collins. This look is perfect for spring as it is delicate, fresh, pink and just reminds me of flowers. Face: 1. Start off by applying a tinted moisturizer or BB cream to your freshly moisturized skin. You can use your finger or a brush, either way, make sure to blend down your neck. We want the skin to be as fresh and dewy as possible so a tinted moisturizer and no face powder is the best option. Jessie’s Picks: Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream. Laura Mercier Tinted Moiturizer- Oil Free. 2. Next take a creamy concealer and blend it under your eyes, around your nose, and on any blemishes. Jessie’s Picks: Mac Studio Finish Concealer. YSL Touche Eclat. 3. Blend a baby pink blush onto the apples of your cheeks and up along your cheekbones. You can choose a cream or powder form blush, whatever you feel most comfortable working wit...

Next take a medium coverage foundation and apply it all over your face and down your neck, blending well. Jessie's Picks: Make Up For Ever Invisible Coverage Foundation. Fab February: Victoria's Secret Inspired Makeup

This Monday Morning’s Fab February is the final chapter of my Victoria’s Secret Trilogy. Today we are focusing on makeup inspired by the above picture of Candice Swanepoel. It is dewy bronzed skin, clean eyes, and nude lips. So break out your liquid bronzers from the depths of your makeup bag and let’s get started. Face: Starting with a clean and moisturized face, take a liquid bronzer and mix it with your tinted moisturizer. Pick up a buffing brush and buff it all over your face and neck. Jessie’s Picks: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Topaz. Take a highlighting concealer and apply it under your eyes in a triangle shape, down your nose, on your cupid’s bow, and onto the centre of your forehead. Blend out with your buffing brush. Jessie’s Picks: Maybelline Dream Touch Lumi Highlighting Concealer. Next pat a cream peach blush along your cheek bones and the apples of your cheeks. Make sure to blend away all harsh edges. Jessie’s Pi...

Fab February: Megan Fox Inspired School Makeup

Today's Fab February is a school look inspired by Megan Fox in the above picture. Its is pretty, light and perfect for school because it emphasizes all your best features without going too over the top. I have modified a few products to make it more wearable and affordable for those of us in school; I have also tried to use limited number of brushes. This look should take no more than 5-6 minutes. So let's get started: Face: 1. Starting with a prepped and moisturized face take a BB cream and blend it all over your face using your fingers. The warmth from your fingers will help the BB cream blend into your skin easier. Jessie's Picks: Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream. Rimmel London 9-1 BB Cream Matte. 2. Next take your concealer apply it under the eyes and on any spots or dark marks, then using your ring finger gently pat until blended. Jessie's Picks: Rimmel 2-1 Concealer and Highlighter. Maybelline 24hr SuperStay Concealer. 3. Again using your fingers apply a c...

Fab February: Kim Kardashian Bridal Shower Makeup

Welcome to day three of Fab February. Today's makeup look is inspired by Kim Kardashians' bridal shower makeup. Yes, I know that her marriage only lasted 72 days but that was almost 3 years ago and her bridal shower makeup is still gorgeous 3 years later. So why not do a pretty makeup in the midst of cold and blustery February. This makeup look has a nice flawless base, warm eyes, and sweet pink lips. Face: 1. Start with a moisturizing primer and blend it all over your face with your fingers or a brush. Unless it is actually your bridal shower you don't have to use a photo friendly primer, so don't worry about finding one. Jessie's Picks: Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Foundation Primer. Korres Greek Yoghurt Nourishing Primer. 2. Pick a sheer to medium coverage luminous foundation and apply it with a buffing brush. Jessie's Picks: L'Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation. Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation. 3. Next take a pink cream blush and blend it ...

Fab February: Review of Benefit's They're Real Mascara

For today's Fab February I thought I would do a makeup review, because I don't think I have done one in a while (or at all?). I purchased this mascara in October and since then I have a had  love/hate relationship with it. Let me start off by saying that I LOVED Benefit's BadGal Lash Mascara. Like literally loved it. But I had read really good reviews about this mascara and the lady at Sephora told me she like it way more than the BadGal. So giving in to makeup pressure I bought it, and the first time I tried it I hated it. I tried it a million different ways and I just could not avoid the skinny spidery lash look, which I despise (unless it is intentional like for fashion week). So I put it away and let it sit for a while thinking that maybe the formula just needed to dry out a little bit. And I was right! I started using it again in December and at that point the consistency was perfect. The formula was less wet so it volumized and curled my lashes rather than making the...

Fab February: Angelina Jolie Makeup Look

(Picture Courtesy of Pinterest) Welcome to the first day of Fab February! I was at the movie theatre yesterday and I saw the trailer for Angelina Jolie's new film Maleficent , and I thought why not do an Angelina Jolie makeup tutorial. So today's look is based on the picture above, and I will be using the Tarte Beauty and the Box Eye Shadow Quad in In the Buff. These eye shadows are amazing, they are so smooth and silky and have excellent pigmentation. I have been using this quad for over a year, and it is perfect for neutral makeup looks. The colours compliment any eye colour, but blue eyes will especially benefit from the bronzey shades.  Alright enough rambling here is the Angelina Jolie inspired makeup look: Face: 1. Start with your favourite sheer-medium coverage foundation or tinted moisturizer and blend it all over your face and down your neck. Jessie's Picks : L'Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Oil-Free. 2. Apply...

Makeup Monday: Lily Aldridge Makeup

Lily Aldridge is a gorgeous model, and after having a not so great day I thought I'd do a model makeup look. This a fresh and bronzed makeup look, so if you can fake tan the night before or just tailor it to your skintone. Face: 1. Apply a gel or liquid bronzer all over your face as a base. Jessie's Picks: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector SPF 25++ in Topaz. Laura Mercier Foundation Primer in Radiance Bronze. 2. Using a brush add some tinted moisturizer all over your face and down your neck. Jessie's Picks:  Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream SPF 30 in Medium. Clinique Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 in Shade 04. 3. Contour your face using matte bronzing powder. Apply it under your cheekbones, on the sides of your forehead, and under your jaw. Jessie's Picks: Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer. The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder. 4. Apply a bronzey-rose cream blush to your cheekbones and blend upwards. Jessie's Picks: Elizabeth Arden Cream Ce...

Casual Sunday: Jessica Alba Inspired Hair and Makeup

(Pictures courtesy of Pinterest)  Jessica Alba is the Queen of casual style. So today's hair and makeup duo is all inspired by her. And as you probably guessed from the pictures, it is going to be a simple ponytail and fresh faced makeup look (my favourite!). This look can work any day of the week but  Mondays and Fridays instantly come to mind. So here we go and hope you enjoy: Let's start with the hair: This look works best on day old hair, but you have just gotten out of the shower, scrunch a thickening mousse through your hair and then blow dry smooth with a paddle brush. Regardless of where you started take a large paddle brush and brush your hair back into a high ponytail. Now you can either pull your hair back super sleek or looser and more casual, both work for this look and as it is casual Sunday do which ever makes you feel more comfortable. Slightly tease your ponytail to create volume. And voila! That is the hair done. Now onto the makeup...

American Hustle Inspired Smokey Eye

(Courtesy of temptalia.com) Today's post is bit of a mash up, I thought why not do a smokey eye with the Naked Palette, but then add a little inspiration from American Hustle ... And thus this makeup look was born: A smokey eye using the shade "Hustle" from the Urban Decay Naked Palette! Face: 1. Start with a light BB Cream and blend it well into your skin. You can use your fingers or a brush depending on what type of coverage you would like. Jessie's Picks: Maybelline Dream BB Cream. Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream. 2. Apply a peachy-pink blush along your cheekbones and blend upwards. Jessie's Picks: Nars Blush in Orgasm. Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in Peach Satin. 3. Dust your face with a translucent powder to set your BB cream. we are not going to go too heavy on the face, because we want the eye to be the focus, and you don't want to look overly made-up. Jessie's Picks: Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder. Clinique Stay Matte Sheer Pressed Po...

Favourite YouTube Makeup Tutorials

One of my favourite pass times is, of course, watching makeup tutorials on YouTube. I then usually copy the look for about a week- two weeks after... every. single. day. So I thought I would share with you a couple  of the looks that I rotate through as my makeup routine! Hope you enjoy it: 1. Anna Saccone: My Full Makeup Routine. This is my current favourite makeup look, and I have been wearing it everyday since Christmas, when I got the Urban Decay Naked Palette (Number One). It is perfect if you have brown eyes and oily or combination skin, as that is what Anna has. I'm sure this does not come as a surprise, because those who read my blog regularly will know that Anna Saccone is one of my biggest inspirations! Link to this tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjhW7J_Y18U 2. Pixiwoo: Vanessa Paradis Makeup. I love this makeup look for days when you have your hair thrown up into a bun or a sleek ponytail. It is clean and fresh and just perfection! Link to this tutoria...

Daytime Winged Eye Liner Makeup

Must Have Mac Products

This is going to be the first post a series about the best products from different brands both drugstore as well as high-end/department store. So first let's start off with Mac! This brand is definitely one my favourite makeup brands, but only for a few select products. In no  particular order these are my favourite products by Mac: 1. Mac Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation. I have this in the shade C4, and I use it all summer long. This powder foundation can give you anywhere from sheer to full coverage. I find that I can pile it on and not look cakey, it won't wear off throughout the day, and if I spritz it with Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, it just looks like skin. Amazing, amazing product! 2.   Mac Studio Tech Foundation . This is an amazing foundation to wear if you are being photographed, or if you are looking for a cream to powder foundation that blends like a dream. This is a medium coverage foundation, and it covers most acne scars, dark marks, and spots....

Jessie's Picks: Bobbi Brown Gel Eye Li...

Blogmas Day 15: My Daily Makeup Look

My daily makeup look is quick, and simple (in my opinion) and it leaves me looking polished and feeling confident. It is a little bit Jessica Alba, a little bit Miranda Kerr, and a little bit Anna Saccone. Alright so here we go: Face: 1. I start with my Hourglass No 28 Primer Serum and I smooth it on with my clean fingers. I then go and do my hair to give it time to sink into my skin. 2. Then on a Real Techniques Buffing Brush, I take my Maybelline Fit Me Foundation, and I buff that all over my face, over my ears, and down my neck. 3. Under my eyes, I then blend my Clinique  Airbrush Concealer using my ring finger. I then pat my Maybelline 24hr Super Stay Concealer over any blemishes or acne scars that are still visible through my foundation. 4.  On an angled blush brush I contour my face using my Rimmel bronzer. 5. Using the same brush I apply my Yves Rocher blush just along my cheekbone, avoiding the apples of my cheeks. 6. I then take Benefit HighBeam, and apply tw...
